A foraging trip is an activity where you go out into nature to gather wild plants, berries, mushrooms and other natural resources for cooking and medicinal use. The word "sanke" comes from the old Norse word for gathering or harvesting.

On a typical sledding trip, you begin by preparing by putting on appropriate clothing and equipment. This can include hiking boots, a backpack, a basket or bag for the things you collect, and a knife or scissors for cutting plants.

The tour often starts early in the morning, as many plants and mushrooms are best collected early in the day. You start by walking through forests, meadows or along coasts, depending on the types of plants and mushrooms you are looking for. Along the way, you keep an eye out for the various edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms that you have learned to recognize.

On some trips, you have the opportunity to return to the organizer and prepare some of the plants yourself.
