An uninhabited mudflat area with natural phenomena

Wadden Sea area udder

The Wadden Sea area at Juvre, located on the north-eastern side of Rømø, is a true natural wonder that offers unique experiences for nature lovers and adventurers. Part of the larger Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site, this dynamic landscape is home to impressive biodiversity and spectacular natural phenomena.

One of the area's highlights is the famous oyster banks, which at low tide reveal themselves as abundant treasure chambers beneath the surface of the sea. These naturally occurring oyster banks offer visitors a unique opportunity to collect oysters themselves – a true delicacy that can be enjoyed fresh from the sea. However, remember to bring suitable footwear and be aware of the changing tides when you embark on this culinary treasure hunt.  In the cold months, you can go on an oyster safari with a guide.

The Wadden Sea area is also known for its regular sightings of seals at low tide, where they can often be seen resting on the sandbanks. To ensure a sustainable observation, it is recommended to keep a suitable distance and use binoculars so as not to disturb the animals' natural behaviour.

In addition to the oyster banks and the opportunity to see seals, the area around Juvre offers extensive salt marsh landscapes, rich bird areas, and a breathtaking view of the Wadden Sea. Another fascinating activity is herb gathering in the mudflats, where the special salty conditions create a unique environment for various edible plants and herbs. Visitors can learn about how to sustainably gather herbs such as sedge and seacress, which are not only an exciting way to connect with nature, but also add a unique flavor to meals if you're unsure of what to eat and what not. can, you can go on a herb gathering with Tønnisgaard

The area is ideal for hiking, bird watching, photography and herb gathering, where nature's changing scenery creates the perfect setting for both relaxation and adventure. A visit to Juvre therefore offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the Wadden Sea's unique nature, from the life-giving oyster banks to the peaceful moments with seals at low tide, and the rich tradition of herb gathering. Regardless of whether you are on foot, by bike or out on the water, the Wadden Sea area at Juvre promises an unforgettable experience with nature in the lead role.
