Rømø's maritime hub

Port of Romo

⚓ Rømø Port

Rømø Havn i Havneby is a modern port with deep roots in the area's maritime history. The current port was built in the early 1960s to create better conditions for fishing and shipping and has since played an important role in both business, ferry traffic and local life on the island.

The port's location right on the Wadden Sea makes it a natural hub on the Rømø. From here, the ferry sails to the German island of Sylt, and the port has been the center of shrimp fishing and other coastal fishing for many years. The maritime activity gives the area a vibrant and authentic atmosphere all year round.

📜 A port with historical significance

The area around Havneby has been used for sailing for centuries, long before the modern harbor was built. When it was decided in the mid-20th century to build a proper harbor at Rømø, Havneby was chosen because of its good location in relation to the shipping routes in the Wadden Sea.

🌊 A port in development

Today, Rømø Port is both an active commercial port and a place in flux, where new facilities and sustainable solutions are continuously being developed. At the same time, the port is located in the middle of a vulnerable natural area, which means that development is taking place with great respect for the unique landscape of the Wadden Sea National Park.

🐟 Atmosphere and experiences by the water

When you visit the harbor, you will encounter fishing boats, ferries, seagulls and the special tranquility that can only be found by the sea. The area invites you to walk along the quay, take a look at maritime life and take a break with a view of the water - an obvious stop on your tour of Rømø.

🌊 The tides in Rømø Harbour – nature in constant motion

In Rømø Harbour you can clearly feel the rhythm of the tides as the water level changes several metres during the day. At low tide the seabed around the harbour is exposed and the Wadden Sea opens up in wide expanses, while at high tide the area is once again filled with life and reflections of the sky. The changing water level is part of the harbour's everyday life and gives visitors a fascinating insight into the powerful nature of the Wadden Sea.
