The church stands on Bedsted's field, south of the eastern edge of Bedsted's town ”, thus the parish priest Carl Wiborg stated the church's location in 1754. And there it still stands, whitewashed, consisting of nave and chancel, a tower to the west, porch to the south and a stair tower at the north side of the tower. Apparently the piece together of individual parts, but still seems as a finished whole. The design of the church must be seen as a result of many centuries of decision-making based on both cultural and religious currents, as well as the crucial economic means at any given time.

What did the church look like?

Completed, it originally consisted only of nave and chancel. By today comparing the plinth on the nave and chancel as well as the roof structure, the church seems to have been built in several tempi. The choir with the triumphal wall clearly stands out as the oldest section. Only later is the ship added. The explanation is probably that in the first instance the choir was only built in stone for the then wooden ship. Later came the trip to the wooden ship when it needed to be restored and there were again financial means.
