Bylderup Church was originally the main church in Slogs Herred. During an extensive restoration in 1952, the church was sought to be restored to its original Romanesque form.
The nave, chancel and apse date from the 13th century, later a western extension was added in the 14th century.
In October 1682, lightning struck the church during a "Gottes Wetter" and destroyed the spire. One of the ceiling beams crashed into the church and destroyed the baptismal font of the fine limestone at the now walled woman's door to the north.
