Schackenborg
As you step onto the courtyard of Schackenborg or wander through the beautiful castle park, you follow in footsteps that stretch back a thousand years and perhaps even further. Here, the powerful Bishop of Ribe once ruled from the first fortress, Møgeltønderhus, and here a national war hero built his castle.
For 11 generations, his descendants—the noble and influential Schack family—resided at Schackenborg, until the castle returned to the Danish Royal House in 1978.
Unique experiences await at Schackenborg all year round. Explore centuries of history, join a guided tour of the stunning castle park, or visit the old stables, where an exciting visitor center is being established. The program at Schackenborg includes classical concerts, lectures, debates, and much more.
The south wing of the castle was previously the private residence of Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, and their children. When the Prince returns home to Schackenborg, the royal flag flies high.
This beautiful Baroque castle was built in the early 1660s by Field Marshal and war hero Hans Schack.
