Emmerlev Church
Emmerlev Church is one of the region's oldest and most inviting historical sites. The original building was constructed around 1150, and during the 15th century, the tower, sacristy, porch, and tower staircase were added.
Before the Reformation, the church was dedicated to St. Andrew (the Apostle).
Throughout the years, there have been changes to the church both inside and out. For example, a gallery on the north side of the nave was removed in 1863.
For a period, the church was under the Archdeacon of Ribe, but from 1673 it belonged to the Schackenborg estate until 1931, when it became self-owning.
Until 1910, Emmerlev was an independent parish with its own priest, but from 1910 to 1989, it was linked with the Hjerpsted parish. Since 1989, the parishes of Emmerlev and Visby have been combined into a single pastorate.
In the tower hang two reunification bells. These were gifted by the Danish people in 1921 and delivered by de Smithske Jernstøberier, Aalborg. The previous bells were surrendered for military use in 1917.
