Once again, we are ready with a round of lectures on current science, streamed live from Aarhus University.
It's free to attend, but registration is required at info@tonnisgaard.dk or 74755257 - you can either call or send an SMS.
It will be possible to buy coffee, tea and cookies during the break.
The doors open at 6:40 p.m. and the lecture begins at 19.00.
You can read more about the lecture series at www.ofn.au.dk
This evening, Kristian Hvidtfelt Nielsen, Associate Professor of History of Science and Vivi K. Pedersen, Associate Professor of Geoscience, will talk about the exploration of Greenland, both past and present.
They describe their lecture like this:
"The exploration of Greenland goes way back in history. Hear about some of the scientific expeditions that have helped shape our understanding of Greenland's nature and culture since the 1700s. In particular, hear about the challenges the expeditions faced and their scientific discoveries. What consequences did they have for Greenland's population, society and place in the Danish Realm and the world?
After the break, you will be given an example of current research in Greenland: research into the melting of the ice sheet. How fast is it melting and what are the consequences of this vast, kilometre-thick ice sheet losing mass? Hear about some of the mechanisms that both affect and are affected by the ice sheet. Also, dive into the landscape beneath the ice and look at the movements in the subsurface driven by the ice and the impact it all has on global sea levels."
The team at Tønnisgaard is looking forward to seeing you for a pleasant and educational evening.
