Hostrup Church
Hostrup Church is centrally located in the peaceful village of Hostrup. The village's main road winds around the church, connecting the nearby village of Jejsing to the south with the historic manor estate of Solvig to the north. Close to the church lies Kirkekroen, which now serves as a parish hall, and at Hvilken, south of Hostrup, you will find the village's ancient rectory. The reason Jejsing is now larger than Hostrup is due to the arrival of the railway in 1867. In 1477, the church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, St. Lawrence, Mary Magdalene, and St. Andrew—a history evidenced by a relic found in a hidden compartment within the church’s ancient altar table. The church also houses a beautifully preserved medieval figure of St. Dionysius. Having survived two major fires—one in 1650 that destroyed the tower and another in 1860 that partially damaged the nave—the church has been meticulously restored over the centuries. It was renovated by L.A. Winstrup in 1862-63, and later restorations were carried out by Axel Hansen in 1927 and Ebbe Clemmensen in 1956-57. In 1913, the church’s silver was lost in a fire at the sexton's house, but it was later replaced by a new set, which is a faithful replica of the original.
