Tønder is a small Danish town with approximately 7,500 inhabitants. It has an amazing history dating back to the 12th century and has been an important trading center for centuries.

1 Stop – The Pedestrian Street

The Pedestrian Streets offers a traditional and nice shopping street that stretches for almost 2 kilometers with lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and local attractions.

Historically speaking, Tønder's Pedestrian Street has been a street where the rich traders lived with their families, this is reflected in the rich culture on the buildings all the way up and down the pedestrian street.

2 Stop – Det Gamle Apotek

The Old Pharmacy from the 17th century, with a baroque sandstone portal, 2 twisted columns and 2 shield-bearing lions, is today a shop with gifts, arts and crafts and Christmas decorations all year round. The goods are beautifully displayed in a total of 46 rooms spread over 3 floors.

3 Stops – Tønder Christ church

Tønder Christ Church rarely graces the town's image. Construction began on 30 April 1591, and the church was completed on 25 July 1592. The oldest part of the church is the tower, which remains from when the church was called St. Nicolai Church, the tower was included without major changes.

The church's opening hours are from 10-13 (Monday – Saturday) at 9:30 – 11:30 (Sunday) except for church services.

Availability: Yes, via lift platform inside the front door. H-parking at the church. The cobblestones outside the church.

4 Stop – The Art Museum

Here you will find the Art Museum with changing exhibitions of modern Nordic art, the cultural history museum and the Vandtårnet, with an exhibition of the Southern Jutland furniture designer Hans.J. Wegner's works.

Availability: Partially. Cultural history Tønder has a lift between the floors and in the Water Tower, but there are rooms that are not accessible.

5 Stop – Uldgade, the Sculptur Garden and the Circular Brigde

Uldgade: Uldgaden and its side streets bear witness to Tønder's history from the 18th to the 19th century. Here you will find a beautiful cobblestone pavement and a string of small and beautiful old houses.

The sculpture garden: The sculpture garden in Tønder contains a collection of 17 beautiful sculptures, which have been donated to decorate the town.

Adress: The sculpture garden is located just south of Uldgade

The circular bridge: Through the Sculpture Garden, a wooden promenade leads out to the Circular Bridge, which reaches out into Mølledammen. The bridge almost floats above the surface of the water and conveys the feeling of walking on water.

6 Stops – Lacing Museet (Closed throughout 2023)

Explore the beautiful historic house and experience lace exhibitions. The history of Tønder Lace workers and periodically smaller special exhibitions with local handicrafts.

Do not miss the lace garden, which is laid out with inspiration from a 200-year-old lace pattern from the museum's collection.

Availability: Yes, on the ground floor. Help is available if the museum is contacted in advance.
