When you enter the castle square at Schackenborg Castle or take a walk in the beautiful castle park, you walk in footsteps that stretch back a thousand years in time and maybe even longer. Here once was the powerful Ribebisp at the first castle, Møgeltønderhus, and here a national war hero built his castle.
For 11 generations, his descendants, the distinguished and influential Schack family, Schackenborg lived before the castle returned in 1978 to the Danish royal house.
All year round, unique experiences await at Schackenborg Castle. Explore the history of the centuries, take a guided tour of the beautiful castle park or pass the old horse stable where an exciting visitor center is erected. Schackenborg's program offers both classical concerts, lectures, debate events and more.
The south wing of the castle was formerly a private residence for Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and their children, when the Prince comes home to Schackenborg Castle then the royal flag flags high.
The beautiful Baroque castle was built in the early 1660s by the warlord and war hero Hans Schack.
