The Art Museum in Tønder shows special exhibitions of northern European art from approx. 1880 to the present day. The museum also shows special exhibitions with works from the rich design tradition in the Nordic countries. All exhibitions are presented in large, bright and sensual spaces, which in themselves strike a Nordic tone. The building dates from 1999. In the same building is Kulturhistorie Tønder.
The museum's landmark The water tower is today decorated as a museum for the famous furniture architect and city child Hans J. Wegner. In the exhibition you will experience chairs specially selected by Hans J. Wegner as well as newly acquired chairs for the collection.
At the old castle bank in Tønder is the Art Museum in Tønder, Cultural History of Tønder and the Water Tower.
From the Water Tower there is a view of the entire Tønder area.
